Burnt By Sparks

Burnt By Sparks

Let's have intense conversation

Seated on leather backed chairs,

Before a fire grate prepared

But not yet lit.

Let's stare at shadows slowly moving

Across the wooden floored room,

Stretch our legs impatiently,

Read newspapers.

Let's fall silent as matches are struck

And flickering flames take hold,

Our skin flushed red in the heat,

Burnt by sparks.
